After keeping it to myself for almost six months, I can finally share my latest pattern - Triangle Dreams!

To celebrate the launch, I thought I’d share some behind the scenes photos of the design and making process, as well as a few photoshoot out-takes.

It all started with a doodled sketch when I was playing around with medallion quilt ideas and trying out different triangle block settings. After settling on the overall layout, I moved to EQ8 to design the individual blocks and try out some different colour options. Unsurprisingly, I settled on a rainbow and stocked up on some of the gorgeous Twist by Dashwood Studio fabrics (this is possibly my favourite fabric line!) with a lovely textured white background fabric.

Next up was cutting and creating. I scribbled out the pattern instructions as I went along, and some blocks took a little bit more playing around with to get right then others… you can see my extra ‘orphan’ blocks below!

After marking came basting and quilting. Although I am a fan of free-motion quilting, such a strong geometric design just demanded a walking foot design. After much back and forth over the course of around 3 months (yes I am a terrible procrastinator!) I settled on a geometric spiral spinning in opposite directions from the centre, which gave a really nice texture. The binding was hand sewn on and then the most important part of the process - kitten approval. Lyra and Aurora were only about 4 months old when they got their first quilt testing job back in November, but they seem to have taken to it well and now it’s almost impossible to stop them trying out everything at least a dozen times!

Thanks to my procrastination, autumn was turning to winter and the deadline for photos was fast approaching. My plans for a lovely warm summer photo shoot were long gone, so I did the next best thing and dragged my partner to the nearest stately home. Ickworth House has absolutely gorgeous gardens and we had great fun roaming around hunting for the perfect spot and confusing the other visitors with our quilty antics. My favourite was definitely the stumpery throne which looked magical in the winter sunlight.

And there you have it! From sketch to kitten approved quilt, I loved designing and making Triangle Dreams and I can’t wait to see the different versions everyone makes.
