It's time to decode and demystify the weird and wonderful world of quilting jargon
I loved geeking out while writing the Quilting Dictionary chapter of my book - it’s amazing how much slang and jargon I’ve picked up over the years! My favourite slightly ridiculous piece of quilting language is “dog ears” - though my cats would disagree!

Entering the world of quilting can feel like stepping off an aeroplane in a foreign country. Suddenly everything - even the street signs - seems completely incomprehensible. It’s definitely one of the things that I found most difficult when I started quilting; how was I meant to know that dog ears meant overhanging points on a block, instead of picturing a puppy?
It’s this experience that made it really important for me to include a quilter’s dictionary in my upcoming book, MQ. Chapter 2 is stuffed with 170 definitions, covering slang, technical speak and more acronyms than a Taylor Swift friendship bracelet.
This dictionary is the perfect companion for any quilter; it equips you with the language you need for tackling a new technique, talking to other quilters about your latest make or even just scrolling through social media.
