Sew Saturday

This Saturday was one of my favourite days of the year - Sew Saturday! For those of you unfamiliar with this wonderful day, it’s a little like Black Friday for sewists. Started as a way of promoting the amazing personal service offered by bricks-and-mortar shops and encouraging sewists to support their local shops, most shops offer a 10% (or more!) discount as well as plentiful tea and cake. As you can imagine, this is my idea of heaven!

My LQS is the lovely Backstitch where I first learnt to quilt. The amazing fabrics and super friendly service make it my first stop for all my fabric needs, and this year I went prepared with a rather long list!

First up was fabric for a new pattern that I’m working on, Orange Blossom, and I couldn’t resist some Chirp! Peony by Ruby Star Society as my big bold print. How adorable are those birds? Paired with some gold, red and pink speckled Notebook: Red by Libs Elliot Greatest Hits, Tiny Triangles by Lewis & Irene, Storm Grove by Makower and Arrow, Dusty Sky by Kathy Hall. I still need a super pale lilac for the background (suggestions of fabric lines/shops very welcome, it is proving elusive!) but a pretty good collection that I’m excited to start working with.

Next up was fabric for a stall at my company’s Christmas craft fair so plenty of Christmas fabric required! Lots of holly, stars, sparkles, deer, fir trees and mistletoe for some seasonal goodies. I couldn’t resist a bit more Ruby Star Society for some more year-round appeal with Balloon Animals in Peach Fizz and Cream Soda and Pop Off! in Blue Raspberry and Peach Fizz for some party “paper” chains, and the lovely dark florals of Rosa by Crystal Manning and Puffins by Lewis & Irene just begged to made into some crochet hook cosies and make-up brush rolls.

All in all I walked away with 30 fat quarters and 6 metres of yardage. A pretty good haul!

Now time to get sewing…
