Rainbow Burst Tester Parade

Every quilt designer knows they would be nothing without their testers, and I had another great bunch for the Rainbow Burst quilt! They all absolutely knocked it out of the park with their makes and their feedback and advice really helped make the pattern the very best it could be.

Don’t forget to check them out on Instagram and give them some love!

Sara Pattenaude @pattenaude101

When I was working on the inspiration mock-ups included in the pattern I really hoped someone would make a dark background version, so imagine how pleased I was to see Sara’s pull! I love the mix of prints and textures she’s included, and can we just take a minute to be in awe of her quilting?? Sara had a real play on her longarm and oh my goodness it looks incredible. This is the level of free motion quilting I dream of being able to do!

“The rainbow burst pattern was so fun to make! It is the perfect quilt for beginners. It teaches basic techniques in a fun and modern way. Cait has written this pattern so well! Easy to understand and to the point. It is also scrap friendly and it is fast to make. Makes for a beautiful wall hanging or baby quilt. Rainbow Burst showcases your favourite fabrics beautifully!” - Sara

Kelly Fox @chicagokfox

A more muted rainbow works so well in Kelly’s pull for a calm quilt, and how cute is that fussy cut zebra centre? I love that she added a border as well to make it a little bigger, the stripes look so great. I can’t wait to see this one quilted!

“The Rainbow Burst Quilt pattern was super easy to follow and fun for both beginners and advanced quilt makers alike. It is essentially four identical quadrants rotated which makes it easy to whip up a finished quilt top quickly. It's a very versatile pattern and easily adaptable to many layouts and colour schemes. Highly recommended if you're looking for a quick weekend project to make you feel accomplished!” - Kelly

Shana Woodman @ladyredelle

Shana used a fat eighth bundle of Speckled by Ruby Star Society to create a gorgeous ombré effect radiating out from the yellow centre. This pattern really isn’t just for rainbows! Another amazing free motion quilter, Shana did an incredible job quilting her top with a fantastic sunburst design to complements her fabric choices perfectly. Utterly beautiful!

Cara Burnham @pink_stitches

I absolutely love Cara’s fabric pull, and even have most of her fabrics in my own stash! They work so well together in the finished quilt and just invite you in. This will be really lovely to snuggle under when it’s quilted!

“The Rainbow Burst Quilt is a great beginner friendly pattern. The instructions are comprehensive and easy to understand. Every step is included from cutting your fabric to finishing the quilt, with clear illustrations to help along the way. The quilt would look fantastic in rainbow, one colour or scrappy fabrics. You can have this quilt cut, pieced and finished really quickly. The added bonus is there are two layout options, so you really get two designs for one!” - Cara

Laura Johnson @laurasbigknits

A bright solids pull really brings out the playful side of the Rainbow Burst pattern, and Laura’s quilt top is just so joyful to look at. It’s going to be a family favourite, I can just tell!

“I really enjoyed putting this pattern together. The instructions were very clear and easy to follow even for a total beginner like me. Once cut the blocks were super quick to come together and I can't wait to try different colour combinations” - Laura

Andrea Howarth @akboredhousewife

Another nice textural pull from Andrea including some of my favourite Speckled fabrics from Ruby Star Society. Although I’m definitely more a cat person, her doggy helper is super cute testing out her blocks for her! I love that she took her finished top out for a snowy photoshoot too - we get hardly any snow where I live in the UK so I enjoyed living vicariously through this one!

“I really enjoyed testing the Rainbow Burst quilt. Cait’s use of the flying geese pattern resonated with me as it minimizes waste and speeds up the process. I also appreciated that she uses large blocks for the quilt and the ease of which I could use scraps to create something really nice, as opposed to having to purchase additional fabric. The instructions were crystal clear and include a lot of graphics that make things easy to understand.” - Andrea

Bartek Buczkowski @bartek_creative_pursuits

Another fun solids pull, beginner quilter Bartek has done a fantastic job on his quilt top! I love that he’s added borders to frame it and add more impact, and the rainbow border really does add another level of joy to the top.

“I would recommend Cait Lisle's "Rainbow Burst" quilt pattern to a quilter at any level. I am new to quilting, having started an adventure with sewing in October 2020. Cait's Rainbow Burst was the first quilting pattern I have ever reviewed, and it was so much fun! It was really a beginner-friendly quilt top, and I found the instructions easy to follow and straightforward. I have never made flying geese before, and Cait's instructions made it easy to make 4 flying geese blocks at one time. The instructions are provided in detail for both cutting and assembly of individual blocks.

It was a fun quilt to put together, and I have learned new techniques whilst I was assembling it. It's a really colourful pattern, and the quilt top is so beautiful when it is assembled. I added two borders to my quilt top - a black border (I like the frame effect it creates), and a rainbow border using the same fabrics as I chose for the quilt pattern. I would recommend this quilt pattern for beginners who want to take their skills to the next level” -Bartek

And there you have it - what a wonderful group of testers and quilts. Don’t forget to check them out on Instagram and give them some love!
